Alvaro Arbeloa’s Real Madrid have revived their interest in Liverpool defensive mainstay Ibrahima Konate.
Ibrahima Konate’s future has been a massive talking point for months. With his contract running out at the end of the season, the French centre-back could end up leaving the club as a free agent. Multiple top clubs are keeping tabs on him, as they would love to sign a player of his quality for free.
Real Madrid are one of the clubs that have often been linked with the Liverpool mainstay. The Spanish club had dropped their interest in the 26-year-old months back. However, according to a report from Fichajes, Los Blancos have revived their pursuit of Konate.
The team in white are waiting for the perfect moment to try and sign him for free ahead of next season. While Konate is free to negotiate with any foreign club, Arbeloa’s team are in no rush. They do not have any intentions of interfering with the potential renewal talk. The Madrid-based giants are patiently waiting to see if he runs down his deal at Anfield.
Konate arrived at Anfield in the summer of 2021 after making a name for himself at RB Leipzig. He has only gone from strength to strength since, and has been one of their mainstays in recent seasons. The 26-year-old played a big part in their Premier League triumph last season.
While he has been a touch inconsistent this season, he remains an integral part of Arne Slot’s plans, who has already suggested that they want to keep him at the club and are in talks to secure his future with a new deal.
Real Madrid are keen on signing Konate
If they manage to agree on a new deal, the transfer saga will be over in no time. However, if they fail to convince him, Real Madrid could then make the most out of his situation. With David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger’s contracts running out, Los Blancos certainly need to freshen things up at the back.
The team in white see this as a great strategic opportunity to bolster their backline. While they won’t be making any moves until the summer, they will certainly be favourites for his signature if the Reds fail to agree a new deal with Konate.
