According to MOPO via Sport Witness, Hamburger SV are reportedly eager to open talks with Arsenal to renegotiate Fabio Vieira’s asking price. The Portuguese midfielder’s loan deal includes a €20 million buy option, which the German side wants to renegotiate.
Fabio Vieira has no future at Arsenal as things stand, especially as Mikel Arteta has plenty of other players in his position. The Portuguese midfielder was a big signing a few years back, with the expectation that he could shine in the future.
However, his below-par performances in the two seasons he was at the club changed the thinking of Arteta, who no longer sees a future for the star here. His loan spell at FC Porto last season did allow Arsenal to maintain his value as well as attract interest during the summer, as many clubs were keen before Vieira joined Hamburger SV on loan.
While his numbers in the Bundesliga have not been anything to rave about, Vieira has made himself a hey star for Hamburger. Two goals and four assists in 15 league games are seen as key for the German club to think about keeping him beyond the summer.
Hamburger had contemplated a permanent move for the midfielder, but at the moment, they are not keen to pay the €20 million buy option included by Arsenal in the loan deal. There’s an indication from the club to sign the Portuguese star permanently, but that may depend on fresh negotiations with the Gunners.

Hamburger are planning on opening dialogue with Arsenal over a reduction of the fees demanded for the €20 million-rated playmaker. It remains to be seen whether the Gunners are open to the idea, given they might anticipate fresh interest in Vieira ahead of the summer.
Selling Vieira for €20 million might already represent a bit of a loss, given how much they paid to sign him in the first place. However, there’s the possibility of reducing the asking rate, especially if Vieira prefers to stay put at Hamburger beyond the summer, although things could change depending on the kind of offers he has on the table when the window opens.
