Manchester United unwilling to give discount to Barcelona for Marcus Rashford deal

Barcelona have received a massive blow in their pursuit of Marcus Rashford, as Manchester United are unwilling to lower their demands.

Marcus Rashford has been on fire since joining Barcelona on loan last summer. He has done wonders for Hansi Flick’s team, and on the back of his performances, the Catalan giants are now ready to make the move permanent.

While Barcelona already have an option to buy, they want to negotiate a lower fee with the Red Devils for the 28-year-old left-winger. But according to a report from Fichajes, United have no intentions of giving any discount. They already consider the €30 million purchase option to be low by current market standards and are not open to any negotiations to lower it.

Following a rift with Ruben Amorim and people at the club, Marcus Rashford ended up spending the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa. While he did an impressive job, there was no way back at Manchester United for him. The Red Devils were ready to cash in on him last summer.

Eventually, Barcelona came forward and secured his services on a season-long loan with a buy option worth €30 million. Rashford has completely revived his career since moving to Spain. He has been involved in a total of 34 matches so far and has contributed towards 23 goals (10 goals, 13 assists).

Marcus Rashford has been one of their standout performers, and Flick is absolutely pleased to have him in his squad. The German manager has made it quite clear that he would love to have Rashford around next season as well. As a result, the Catalan giants are now looking to make the move permanent.

Barcelona want to negotiate a lower fee for Rashford

While they do want to secure Marcus Rashford’s services on a permanent basis, the financial side of things is a bit tricky for them. Given their financial crisis, Barcelona want to negotiate a lower fee than the €30 million they agreed upon last summer.

However, United have no intentions of re-negotiating. They believe €30 million is pretty much a bargain for a player with international experience and the reputation of Rashford. They won’t entertain any attempts to lower the fee and have made it clear that Barcelona will have to pay the pre-agreed price if they want the English international at Camp Nou next season as well.

July 1st is going to be a very important date regarding this move. It will be interesting to see if Barcelona eventually trigger the buy clause.
