Paul Scholes wants Manchester United to sign Cristian Romero

Paul Scholes wants Manchester United to bring Cristian Romero to Old Trafford amid the Argentine’s precarious situation at Tottenham.

According to Fichajes, Paul Scholes reportedly wants Manchester United to make a bid for Cristian Romero to bring the Argentine in the summer. The World Cup winner has had a torrid season at Tottenham as his relationship with the club, and its fans, has deteriorated, which is why the Manchester United legend wants his former club to sign him.

Cristian Romero made the headlines in consecutive weekends, first for a social media post following the draw with Manchester City and then with a red card on Saturday. The Argentine received his marching orders for a dangerous foul on Casemiro, which will now see him miss four games, as it was his second sending off of the season.

There are considerable doubts about his temperament, and the fanbase is calling for his head as things stand. Tottenham managed to retain him in the summer and made him the captain of the team, while also making him one of the highest-paid players at the club.

However, the ongoing drama in the background has cast doubts over his long-term career in north London, with suggestions that Romero would be ready to leave the club. There are further doubts that Spurs might lose their key stars if they cannot qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Tottenham are currently relaxed about Romero’s future, but if push comes to shove, they might consider offers that suit their cause. For instance, a recent report stated they would demand £70-80 million to sell Romero, which does make only a handful of clubs capable of paying as much and signing him, which could include Manchester United.

Paul Scholes wants a Tottenham defender?

Paul Scholes has reportedly recommended that Manchester United sign Romero from Tottenham if the conditions are right. Should such a move materialise, he would unite with Argentine national team defender Lisandro Martinez and probably act as Harry Maguire’s long-term replacement, particularly as the England international is poised to leave in the summer.

Romero is certainly one of the top-performing defenders in the league, but since his move from Atalanta to Spurs, he has had temperament issues. Despite his Premier League experience at the top level, there might be other options that Manchester United could consider instead of the Tottenham defender.
