Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta has been linked with a move away from the South London club in recent months.
Jean-Philippe Mateta was expected to leave Crystal Palace in the winter transfer window and join AC Milan, but he failed to secure an exit. There were issues with his medical, and the move did not materialise eventually.
According to a report from Football Insider, Manchester United remain interested in the French international, and Crystal Palace would be prepared to sell him for a nominal fee at the end of the season, reducing their £30 million valuation.
Jean-Philippe Mateta’s contract with the South London club expires in 2027, and it would make sense for Crystal Palace to sell him in the summer transfer winodw. The Frenchman was desperate to leave the club during the January transfer window, and it is clear he no longer wishes to play for them. It would be ideal for Crystal Palace to cash in on him.
The Eagles have already signed a replacement during the winter transfer window. Crystal Palace paid a premium for Jorgen Strand Larsen, and they will hope that the Norwegian striker can fill the void potentially to be left by the Frenchman in the summer.
Mateta could be useful for Man United
Meanwhile, the 28-year-old will hope to join a competitive club where he can fight for trophies. The opportunity move to Manchester United could be ideal for him. The Red Devils could use more depth in the attacking unit as well.
Signing the experienced French attacker could prove to be a wise decision. If they can sign Mateta for a reasonable amount of money, the deal could be worth doing for them. The player has extensive experience in the Premier League, and he has consistently shown his quality. He could be the ideal backup option to Benjamin Sesko.
Mateta could share the goal-scoring burden with the Slovenian international. Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in the country, and the opportunity to play for them will be hard to turn down for a 28-year-old. The Frenchman will certainly be attracted to the idea of joining them, and it will be interesting to see if the two clubs can finalise an agreement.
