Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United have reportedly revived their interest in the services of Levante attacking sensation Karl Etta Eyong.
Karl Etta Eyong could end up parting ways with La Liga club Levante next summer. The Cameroonian international could be heading to the Premier League, as multiple English clubs are keen on his signature.
According to a report from Fichajes, Newcastle United are one of the clubs that are interested in his services. The Magpies are set to revive their interest in the 22-year-old, as they look for a strategic signing to bolster their attack for the long-run.
In search of a prominent role, Karl Etta Eyong joined Levante from Villarreal last summer. He has off to a flying start to the season. The 22-year-old striker had six goals and three assists in his first ten league appearances. The incredible start had resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe, and clubs like Barcelona were keeping tabs on him.
However, Etta Eyong has not been able to build on that incredible start. He has failed to bag a goal or an assist in his last ten La Liga outings. The dip in form has cooled the interest from some of the Spanish clubs, but English clubs still remain keen on his signature. They are looking to invest in the massive potential of the Cameroonian international.
While Etta Eyong’s contract at Levante runs until 2029 and he is an integral part of the club’s plans, they are still ready to listen to offers given their financial crisis. His departure could ease the financial pressure and allow them to bolster other areas in the squad.
Newcastle United are plotting a raid on Levante
Newcastle United have emerged as a potential destination for the 22-year-old. The Magpies have not been clinical enough in the final third following Alexander Isak’s departure. Nick Woltemade has not lived upto the expectations, while Yoane Wissa has struggled to stay fit. As a result, Howe is looking to invest in another striker.
Scouts from the Tyneside outfit were quite impressed with his physical profile, power, and potential for growth. The club consider him a great fit for a more direct and demanding style of play. Their sporting director has been keeping tabs on him throughout the season.
Despite the dip in form, Newcastle United are ready to invest in him. They see it as a strategic move, not an immediate fix. He could be available for around €30 million. While it is a high price for Spanish clubs, it is certainly manageable for the Magpies. While they believe this is an ideal time to push for his signature, it will be interesting to see if they can land him.
