Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United have revived their interest in the services of Levante attacking sensation Karl Etta Eyong.
Karl Etta Eyong could end up parting ways with Levante next summer. The Cameroonian international could be heading to the Premier League, as multiple English clubs are keen on his signature.
According to a report from Fichajes, Newcastle are one of the clubs that are interested in his services. The Magpies are set to revive their interest in the 22-year-old, as they look for a strategic signing to bolster their attack for the long-run.
In search of a prominent role, Etta Eyong joined Levante from Villarreal last summer. He has off to a flying start to the season. The 22-year-old striker had six goals and three assists in his first ten league appearances. The incredible start had resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe; clubs like Barcelona were keeping tabs on him.
However, Etta Eyong hasn’t been able to build on that incredible start. He has failed to bag a goal or an assist in his last 10 league outings. The dip in form has cooled the interest from some of the Spanish clubs, but English clubs still remain keen on his signature. They are looking to invest in the massive potential of the Cameroonian international.
While his contract at Levante runs until 2029 and he is an integral part of the club’s plans, they are still ready to listen to offers given their financial crisis. His departure could ease the financial pressure and allow them to bolster other areas in the squad.
Newcastle are plotting a raid on Levante
Newcastle have emerged as a potential destination for the 22-year-old. The Magpies haven’t been clinical enough in the final third following Alexander Isak’s departure. Nick Woltemade hasn’t lived upto the expectations, while Yoane Wissa has struggled to stay fit. As a result, Howe is looking to invest in another striker.
Newcastle scouts were quite impressed with his physical profile, power, and potential for growth. The club consider him a great fit for a more direct and demanding style of play. Their sporting director has been keeping tabs on him throughout the season.
Despite the dip in form, the club are ready to invest in him. They see it as a strategic move, not an immediate fix. He could be available for around €30 million. While it’s a high price for Spanish clubs, it is certainly manageable for the Magpies. While they believe this is an ideal time to push for his signature, it will be interesting to see if they can land him.
