Joel Piroe will reportedly explore a move away from Leeds United in the summer transfer window after rejecting offers in recent weeks.
According to a report by Football Insider, Joel Piroe faces an uncertain future at Leeds United heading into the summer transfer window. The 26-year-old attacker rejected the opportunity to join Leicester City in January, as he wanted to remain at Elland Road until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Celtic also wanted to sign Piroe in the winter transfer window, but “their approach was shrugged off due to Leeds United’s shared ownership with arch-rivals Rangers”. However, the Wijchen native “is expected to explore a move away from Leeds United in the summer if he continues to struggle for game time” in the second half of the 2025/26 season.
How has Joel Piroe fared at Leeds United?
Joel Piroe has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Leeds United from Swansea City in a deal worth over £10 million in August 2023. Born in Wijchen, the Dutchman spent his formative years in the Netherlands, passing through the academies at Quick 1888 Nijmegen, SC Woezik, NEC Nijmegen, and Feyenoord before graduating from the youth division at PSV Eindhoven.
However, the 26-year-old has risen in prominence during his spell in England, particularly during his stint with Leeds United. Piroe has made over 100 appearances for Leeds United thus far while chipping in with 33 goals and ten assists. However, while the Dutch striker was integral to the West Yorkshire club’s promotion to the Premier League last season, he has been a backup player this term.
What next?
Widespread reports in the winter transfer window linked Joel Piroe with several EFL Championship clubs, including Leicester City. However, Piroe had no interest in leaving Leeds United midway through the 2025/26 season, as he wanted to fight for his place in Daniel Farke’s team.
Another reason may have been the opportunity to join a better club in the summer transfer window. A few reports also linked Piroe with Celtic, before “their approach was shrugged off due to Leeds United’s shared ownership with arch-rivals Rangers”.
However, the 26-year-old Dutch striker “is expected to explore a move away from Leeds United in the summer if he continues to struggle for game time” in the second half of the 2025/26 season. A summer deal may be on the cards, as he remains a peripheral figure for Leeds United heading into the final months of this term.
