Manchester United will reportedly intensify their efforts to tie 20-year-old English international Kobbie Mainoo to a new contract after contacting his representatives.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Manchester United will attempt to tie Kobbie Mainoo to a new contract in the coming weeks. Talks between the two parties have been at a standstill for several months, and there had been widespread speculation surrounding the English midfielder’s future when Ruben Amorim was still at the helm at Old Trafford.
However, the latest report has revealed that the Premier League heavyweights plan to “accelerate contract talks” with the Englishman, having “pencilled in discussions” for this month. Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, has already made contact with Mainoo’s camp” to offer “reassurances over the club’s long-term vision” surrounding the homegrown talent.
Kobbie Mainoo has resurrected his fortunes since Manchester United parted ways with Ruben Amorim last month. The 20-year-old has featured in every game since Amorim departed from Old Trafford, with Michael Carrick handing him a start in all three games he has overseen since taking over from Darren Fletcher.
The English international has made nearly 100 appearances for Manchester United thus far while chipping in with seven goals and four assists. However, Mainoo’s long-term future at Old Trafford has been uncertain for several months, primarily due to Ruben Amorim’s reluctance to hand him starts.
Additionally, Kobbie Mainoo has been at loggerheads with Manchester United during contract talks, and discussions over a new deal have been at a standstill for several months. While the homegrown midfielder has no intention of departing from Old Trafford anymore, his contract situation remains uncertain.
The 20-year-old Englishman has entered the final 18 months of his contract, and the Red Devils are eager to tie him to a new deal in the coming weeks.
