Arsenal and Liverpool are seemingly ahead of Real Madrid in the race for Dutch midfield sensation Kees Smit ahead of a summer move.
According to Caught Offside, Kees Smit continues to attract big interest in his services, with the Dutch sensation widely expected to leave AZ Alkmaar next summer. Arsenal and Liverpool are expected to battle for the midfielder, with the English duo seemingly ahead of Real Madrid in the race.
Kees Smit continued to turn heads in his direction, with a host of top clubs around the continent keeping close tabs on his progress. There are a host of Premier League teams tracking the midfielder’s progress, ahead of a summer move, who also tried to sign him in Janaury, although a departure then was seen as unlikely.
Liverpool and Arsenal are among the suitors for Smit, with the central midfielder’s profile of particular interest to those English giants. His ability to read the game, dictate tempo and drive with the ball are all seen as useful attributes by many of the top English sides.
AZ Alkmaar are expected to demand at least €60 million for the 20-year-old star, but that could rise to even €75 million as per the report should interest mount up for his signature. Smit is likely to give plenty of options to choose from, but given the current climate, either Liverpool or Arsenal would be a good choice.
Arne Slot of Liverpool could play a big role should the Merseysiders push through for the transfer. However, Arsenal also have strong connections in the Eredivisie to make their play for the €60 million-rated Dutch whizkid, as a big battle between the potential title contenders for next season could ensue for Smit.
Real Madrid out of the Kees Smit race?
Real Madrid have had a particular interest in signing Smit, as they continue to look into the market for a top-draw midfield signing. Smit might be young, but his mature performances have triggered interest from the Spanish side, although they are thought to be behind Arsenal and Liverpool in the race.
The big issue for Real Madrid is the price point, as they may not look to pay over the odds for the young midfielder. Hence, from a financial standpoint alone, Real Madrid could look at alternative options in the market, although that does not rule out the idea of trying for the AZ Alkmaar midfield talent.
