Newcastle United are set to rekindle their interest in Stade Reims midfield prodigy Patrick Zabi, despite reports of another destination for the rising star.
According to a report by the i Paper, Newcastle United are set to retain an interest in Stade Reims’ midfield prodigy Patrick Zabi. The Magpies are keen to keep track of the player dubbed as the ‘Next Pogba’ despite reports stating the player could be headed to another destination in the summer.
Newcastle United have a fight on their hands ahead of the summer when many of their top names could be the subject of approaches from rival clubs. The Magpies are eager to make it back to the UEFA Champions League to keep hold of their top names, such as Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.
Beyond that, the Tyneside outfit are also focused on bringing in names to strengthen their squad, but also keeping a close eye on younger talents they can develop. Eddie Howe has mentioned recently that they are keen to sign young stars with the ability to grow with the team, and they might have had an interest in one French midfielder.
The said player is Patrick Zabi, who attracted interest from Manchester United earlier in January, but ultimately stayed at Stade Reims. The 19-year-old midfield prodigy, dubbed as the ‘Next Pogba’, has been highly thought of at clubs like Newcastle United.
The Magpies may have had an interest in the midfielder for some time, but could not find a solution to sign him earlier. Howe would like his profile for the team, and Newcastle United could keep monitoring his progress in the coming period, despite reports stating he is headed elsewhere.
Newcastle United to rekindle Patrick Zabi chase?
As per the report, Zabi is expected to join Paris FC in the summer when the season ends, which might be seen as a big blow for teams like Newcastle United. The newly emerged Ligue 1 club could offer him a key role for the present and future, but that does not shut down Newcastle United’s prospects of signing him.
A sizeable offer to Paris FC or Stade Reims might be the way forward, and Newcastle United have rekindled their interest in the 19-year-old midfield prodigy despite reports of his expected future move. It remains to be seen whether the magpies make an offer to test the waters, although any deal will depend on the kind of role Zabi might be guaranteed at St. James’ Park.
