Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a summer move for Leon Goretzka after late links during the recently concluded January window.
According to CF Bayern Insider, Arsenal are still on the trail of Leon Goretzka and could make a summer approach for the midfielder. The Bayern Munich star is about to leave the club once his contract expires in the summer, as he could entertain a move to the Gunners if they make an offer.
Bayern Munich have reportedly confirmed that Leon Goretzka will leave in the summer once his contract expires. The experienced midfielder has played over 290 games for the Bavarian giants since moving from Schalke on a free transfer, and even now, is seen as a key part of Vincent Kompany’s side.
Arsenal were linked with a deadline-day move following the late injury to Mikel Merino. The Spaniard is now likely to miss the remainder of the season with a broken foot, as the Gunners contemplated bringing the Bundesliga winner on a cut-price deal, given he is into the final six months of his contract at Bayern Munich.
However, it was reported that Goretzka preferred to stay at Bayern Munich and chose to finish the season there, and then move on in the summer. He does have a few suitors keen to sign him, including Tottenham and Atletico Madrid, with Arsenal now being added to that list.
Spurs were initially interested in a January deal, but instead signed Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid. They could be in the mix for Goretzka, given the experience the Bundesliga winner brings to the table, although now with Arsenal in the mix, a move for Tottenham might prove challenging.
Arsenal to explore Goretzka move?
Arsenal were linked with Sandro Tonali on deadline day, which came to nothing in the end. However, those links showcased that Mikel Arteta might target a high-profile midfielder in the summer, and they might retain an interest in the Italian.
However, with Goretzka’s availability on a free transfer, they might consider making an offer, with the midfielder reportedly open to the idea of considering a move if the Gunners propose a deal. However, whether Arteta is serious about the Bundesliga winner remains to be seen, as he might also prefer a much younger alternative for his midfield.
