Evan Mooney set to join Arsenal as deal agreed

Arsenal face a race against time on deadline day as they are targeting a late move for St. Mirren’s teenage winger Evan Mooney.

According to Football Insider, Arsenal are interested in signing Evan Mooney from St. Mirren, as they face a race against time to get a deal in place. The report states they have already agreed on a deal with St Mirren for the teenage winger, as it might be about getting it over the line before tonight’s deadline.

Arsenal are targeting players for their academy level since the start of deadline day, and they may not dip into the market for the first team players. Earlier in the day, they were keen on signing a new striker for the Under-21 side and had targeted a move for Hearts attacker James Wilson.

Tottenham have since stolen the march and are now closing in on the signing of Wilson from Hearts. Arsenal are also targeting another attacking signing for their Under-21s, and it is from another Scottish side, St. Mirren. The Premiership side signed Manchester United winger Jacob Devaney on loan, which could pave the way for Arsenal target Evan Mooney to depart.

Mooney has been watched over by the Gunners over a period of time, and they had earmarked the 18-year-old Scottish midfield sensation as a potential future signing. However, it appears Arsenal have now found an agreement with St. Mirren over a move, with the north Londoners facing a race against time to complete the deal.

The 18-year-old Scottish midfield sensation has been featuring for St Mirren’s first team this season, and while joining another team and their Under-21 setup might be seen as a downgrade, there are differences in levels. Mooney could be a shrewd addition to Arsenal, as they may have to complete the deal in time so as not to miss out.

Arsenal to be active late on?

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta insisted the club are on alert to any market opportunities late on deadline day following the serious injury to Mikel Merino. There were rumours of links to Sandro Tonali earlier in the day, although those were brushed aside by all parties.

They might still keep an eye out for a potential opening somewhere, although the Gunners are not expected to make any signings on deadline day and continue with their existing squad for the remainder of the season.
