RB Leipzig full-back Lutsharel Geertruida looks all set to reunite with Arne Slot at Liverpool in this window.
Liverpool have been on the lookout for a new right-back since the start of the transfer window. The wait has been long, but they seem to finally have it all figured out. Arne Slot has chosen Lutsharel Geertruida as an ideal player for his setup, and the Reds are working hard to ensure their reunion happens.
According to Keith Downie, Geertruida is already in talks with Liverpool regarding a transfer. While he is currently on loan at Sunderland, and there is no break clause, the Black Cats have decided they won’t stand in his way because of how big the opportunity is.
However, they want to bring in a replacement before they sanction the move for the 25-year-old Dutch defender. Geertruida came up the ranks at Feyenoord and made quite a name for himself while playing for their first team. He ended up joining RB Leipzig in the summer of 2024, but the move didn’t really work.
As a result, he ended up joining Sunderland on loan ahead of the ongoing campaign. He has been quite consistent in the Premier League, and it has put him on the radar of Liverpool. With Conor Bradley out injured, Arne Slot wants to bring in another right-sided full-back and having worked with Geertruida at Feyenoord, the Dutch manager feels the 25-year-old could prove to be a very valuable player for them.
Geertruida is eager for a reunion with Slot
As per Florian Plettenberg, the player has already given the green light for the move, and RB Leipzig are also ready sanction his departure. The Reds’ wait for a new right-back will soon be over as things stand.
He is the chosen one, and Liverpool are now looking to get the green light from Sunderland, who don’t seem to have any problems with the move, as long as they get to sign an ideal replacement. According to Fabrizio Romano, personal terms were never really a problem, as the player was eager to once again play under Slot.
With all parties willing to reach a common ground, there could soon be a major breakthrough. It will be interesting to see if all three club manages to find a solution in time.
