Crystal Palace will reportedly look to sign 18-year-old English defensive sensation Charlie Dewar from Scottish club Dundee United this year.
According to a report by Football Insider, Charlie Dewar is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. The Eagles are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a young centre-back this year. So, the 18-year-old Dundee United wonderkid has emerged as a target for the South London outfit.
The report has suggested that other Premier League clubs are also interested in the Englishman, with Crystal Palace facing stiff competition for the youngster’s signature. Nevertheless, the 2024/25 FA Cup winners have initiated their move by registering their interest in Dewar.
Who is Charlie Dewar?
Charlie Dewar is the latest promising prodigy from his homeland to rise in prominence. Born in England, the teenage defensive sensation has spent his recent formative years in Scotland after starting his youth career with Shields FC. Dundee United signed the 18-year-old in July 2023, but he has gained first-team experience on loan at Alloa Athletic in the last 12 months.
The English defensive sensation has made considerable progress during his spell with Alloa Athletic, amassing over 2,000 minutes of game time across 24 appearances this term. Meanwhile, Dewar’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Crystal Palace will be among the prospective suitors vying for the youngster’s signature this year.
London calling?
Crystal Palace’s interest in Charlie Dewar is understandable. The Eagles have prided themselves on identifying top-class prospects by being ahead of the curve, with Adam Wharton one of the shining examples of that outlook. The defensive unit also witnessed the rise of Marc Guehi in recent years, with the English international becoming one of the world’s most sought-after centre-backs before joining Manchester City.
With Guehi no longer at the club, the 2024/25 FA Cup winners have been scouring the market for a centre-back. Several candidates, including Jayden Oosterwolde, have thus emerged on Crystal Palace’s wishlist, with Dewar also a viable target. While the 18-year-old Englishman is at the start of his career, he can become a long-term solution for Crystal Palace, like Guehi did when he arrived from Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace will face stiff competition from other Premier League clubs for the Dundee United prodigy’s signature. However, the Eagles have initiated their move by registering their interest in the teenage English prospect. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Dewar and if Crystal Palace can sign him from the Scottish club.
