Crystal Palace are set to sign Evann Guessand from Aston Villa on a loan deal until the summer, with a buy option likely to be included.
According to The Telegraph, Crystal Palace are close to signing Evann Guessand on a loan deal until the end of the season from Aston Villa. The attacker has found game time limited at Villa Park, and his preference to play in the central role may end up suiting Palace, as they could part ways with Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Crystal Palace have been looking for solutions in the market to address the elephant in the room called Jean-Philippe Mateta. The French striker is eager to leave the club for a new challenge, and so far, there have been many clubs showing big interest.
Juventus were the early runners alongside AC Milan, but the striker is now looking likely to stay in the Premier League. Nottingham Forest have made an offer, while Tottenham appear to be in the mix for the Frenchman too, as Palace are demanding £40 million to sell him, but more importantly, will only allow a departure if they can sign a replacement.
Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen was close to joining in a £50 million deal, including add-ons, although that deal is now cooling off. Aston Villa’s Evan Guessand was mentioned a few days ago, and it appears Palace are now closing in on signing the Aston Villa star on a loan despite only joining the Birmingham outfit in a £22 million deal back in the summer.
Aston Villa have used Guessand in a wide role or behind the striker so far in his limited exposure in Unai Emery’s side this season. The £22 million Aston Villa attacker wants to play in his preferred central position, and should he replace Mateta, it would seem ideal for his development.
Evann Guessand to Crystal Palace?
Guessand was mentioned as a potential exchange option, as Aston Villa previously showed an interest in Mateta. Villa have since cooled their interest in the Palace star, although the South London outfit have agreed on a loan deal with the Birmingham giants for their £22 million attacker.
The deal will come with a buy option at the end of it, and should he arrive at Selhurst Park, it may all but confirm the collapse of the Strand Larsen deal. Will Guessand prove his worth at Palace is a question many would want to see, as filling in Mateta’s boots will be difficult.
