Tottenham are eager to sign Victor Munoz from Osasuna by paying his release clause, but face the threat of Real Madrid in the race.
According to Fichajes, Victor Munoz is emerging as a target for Tottenham ahead of the summer, with the north Londoners ready to put serious thoughts in to the move. Spurs are willing to pay the €40 million release clause in his contract, but face a complicated issue owing to Real Madrid’s buy-back clause.
Real Madrid have formed a habit of including modest buyback clauses when selling some of their promising young talents elsewhere. The Spanish giants have had a good hold on some of their talents plying their trade elsewhere.
For instance, they have absolute power when determining the futures of Como duo, Nico Paz and Jacobo Ramon, with Real Madrid holding modest buy-back clauses to recall them back to the club next summer. They do have another such clause with one of the other players they sold during the summer in Victor Munoz.
Osasuna paid €5 million to sign Munoz from Real Madrid in the summer, and have included a €40 million release clause into his contract. He has been good enough for the Spanish side this term with eight goal contributions, which has made him a target for a few teams, including Tottenham in England.
Tottenham are in the mix for Munoz as things stand and are keeping close tabs on the winger’s situation. Spurs had been in the market for reinforcements in the wide areas, and could look at the €40 million-rated La Liga sensation as a potential option.
Tottenham to face Real Madrid threat?
Tottenham are reportedly ready to pay the entire €40 million release clause to sign the player rather than negotiating the fee with Osasuna. The main reason here is the €8 million buy-back clause that Real Madrid holds as part of the deal, which they could exercise and then sell Munoz on for a profit to the highest bidder.
However, there could be a twist as per the report, which states that should Tottenham or any other team pay the La Liga release clause, then Real Madrid may not be able to exercise the buy-back clause. However, they might still be entitled to a percentage of a sale should Osasuna sell him.
