Juventus are back in the mix for Federico Chiesa and contemplate a last-ditch move for the Liverpool attacker before the January window shuts.
According to Calcio Mercato, Juventus are still in the mix for Federico Chiesa, as they contemplate a last-ditch move for the Liverpool man. The Bianconeri are looking for an attacking signing before the closure of the January window, with the Liverpool wide man now seen as a viable option.
Liverpool could face a conundrum with regard to a late decision on Federico Chiesa. The Italian has been largely marginalised under Arne Slot since both arrived at the club 18 months ago, and he has failed to establish himself as a solid member of the first team.
At best, Chiesa is seen as a bench warmer under Slot, who has been so far reluctant to use him even when there were attacking absentees in the team. There has been speculation surrounding the winger’s future, with Liverpool reportedly demanding at least 15 million to sell him, and may not be interested in a loan deal.
Juventus contemplated re-signing Chiesa at the start of the month, with the Italian giants ready to fuel their season with a new attacker. Some reports stated Chiesa would be open to signing for the Bianconeri, 18 months after leaving the Turin club for Liverpool.
The chase has not been straightforward from Juventus’ side despite their early interest. The Italians have tried to sign other names as well, but they might view Chiesa as a possible fallback option following their failure to land other targets.
Does Juventus need a new striker?
Dusan Vlahovic’s future remains a doubt, while Jonathan David and Lois Openda have not hit the ground running since their summer move to the club. After chasing for a brief period, Juventus cooled their interest in Jean-Philippe Mateta, and have since failed with a move for Youssef En-Nesyri.
They also tried approaching Randal Kolo Muani, another one of their former strikers, and now they could make a last-ditch attempt to re-sign Chiesa. It remains to be seen whether there’s any approach for the €15 million-rated Liverpool wide man, as Slot may not want to weaken the side by losing an attacker at this stage of the season.
