Xabi Alonso has picked four targets if he joins Liverpool

Former Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso has identified four transfer targets should he take over at Liverpool.

With the pressure mounting on Arne Slot at Liverpool, Xabi Alonso has been heavily linked with a return to Liverpool. The Spanish manager is considered the favourite to be the next Liverpool boss if the Dutch manager is finally shown the door.

According to a report from Fichajes, Alonso has already made his demands clear to the Liverpool board to take charge at Anfield. The former Real Madrid manager wants the club to make four marquee signings and prepare for another major overhaul at the club.

Alonso’s time at Real Madrid might have ended sooner than expected, but he has certainly made a name for himself with his impressive work in Germany. He did wonders with Bayer Leverkusen, helping them win the Bundesliga unbeaten.

Given how effective his style and his ideas have been, Liverpool are willing to bet on their former midfielder. Meanwhile, Alonso sees this as a great opportunity to get his managerial career back on track. A move back to England could help him revive himself.

Alonso’s plan to transform Liverpool

He is already aware of how things are at Liverpool, and he seems very open to a move. However, he wants four world-class players to bring the squad up to date. With Virgil van Dijk in the final phase of his career and Ibrahima Konate’s future uncertain, Alonso wants the Reds to sign Micky Van de Ven from Tottenham.

He is amongst the best young defenders in the world, and his pace is an x-factor. He could be an ideal long-term replacement for their skipper at the back. He wants Adam Wharton for the midfield, as the youngster has exceptional defensive abilities and can also control the tempo of the game.

Alonso wants Bradley Barcola to bolster the left flank. He wants more competition as well as quality in that position. Meanwhile, he wants to bring in a top-quality replacement for Mohamed Salah and is willing to bet on Michael Olise, who has taken his game to the next level since joining Bayern Munich.

While all four players could completely transform their squad, signing them won’t be that straightforward, as they are an integral part of their current teams.
