Aston Villa want £40 million to sell Emiliano Martinez

Aston Villa reportedly want at least £40 million to sell key man Emiliano Martinez amid interest from Manchester United and Inter Milan.

According to Football Insider, Manchester United and Inter Milan have been sounded out on a £40 million price point if they want to sign goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. Aston Villa are ready to sell if they can get the right price as well as the desired replacement, to replace the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner.

Aston Villa have been creative with their transfer dealings this month, as they continue to maneuver through choppy waters with regard to their PSR obligations. The Birmingham giants are not flush with cash and have relied on selling players before getting new ones.

Hence, should they receive the right price for any of their current stars, there is a likelihood that they will sell, including Emiliano Martinez. The South American keeper was primed to depart last summer, but rather unexpectedly, he stayed at Villa Park.

However, there is fresh speculation surrounding his future with the media linking him with a move away before the closure of the January transfer window. Martinez’s agent have held talks with Inter Milan, who are eying a successor to Yann Sommer, who could depart in the summer when his contract runs out.

Manchester United are also linked again, although at the moment they are seemingly happy with summer signing Senne Lammens. Moreover, Aston Villa are demanding a fee close to £40 million to sell Martinez, who had cost them £17 million back in the summer of 2020 from Arsenal.

Aston Villa looking for Martinez replacement?

Aston Villa are alert to the possibility of Emiliano Martinez leaving this late in the January transfer window, and have kept tabs on a few replacement options. FC Porto’s Diogo Costa is a target, although the Portuguese giants are set to demand significantly to let their main star leave in the middle of the season.

Manchester City are also demanding £30 million to sell James Trafford, with the former Burnley star being viewed as a viable replacement for Emiliano Martinez. It remains to be seen whether there is a late twist in the tale with the Argentine stopper, and more importantly, if interested clubs are willing to fork out the £40 million that Villa want.
