Aston Villa may pursue 27-year-old USMNT international Weston McKennie for a Bosman move in the summer transfer window if he leaves Juventus as a free agent.
According to a report by Italian outlet Tutto Juve, Weston McKennie is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, the 27-year-old Juventus utility man has emerged as a target for the West Midlands outfit.
However, Aston Villa will not be alone in the battle for the American midfielder’s signature, as AC Milan, AS Roma, and Atletico Madrid are also among the prospective suitors vying for his signature. Meanwhile, Juventus will attempt to secure McKennie’s long-term future, as they are eager to strike an agreement on a contract renewal.
Weston McKennie has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Juventus from FC Schalke 04 in July 2021. Born in Little Elm, the Texan midfielder spent most of his formative years in the USA and graduated from the youth division at FC Schalke 04. While the 27-year-old rose in prominence during his time in Germany, he has made considerable progress in his spell in Serie A.
While the USMNT international also had a loan spell with Leeds United in the second half of the 2022/23 season, he has made some progress in the last two and a half years. McKennie has made over 200 appearances for Juventus thus far, chipping in with 23 goals and 23 assists. However, his future at the Serie A club is uncertain after entering the final six months of his contract. The situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, including Aston Villa.
Weston McKennie has been on Aston Villa’s radar for a long time. The continued interest makes sense, as the Villans are scouring the market for a versatile midfielder heading into the summer transfer window.
