Liverpool contemplate recalling Kostas Tsimikas as Andrew Robertson pushes for Tottenham move, receive green light

Liverpool contemplate recalling Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at AS Roma, as Andrew Robertson could make his switch away to Tottenham.

According to talkSPORT, Liverpool are thinking about recalling Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at AS Roma in the coming days. The return of the Greek full-back could pave the way for Andrew Robertson’s departure to Tottenham before the end of the window.

Kostas Tsimikas was deemed surplus to requirements at Liverpool during the summer after the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. The 29-year-old, who joined the Merseyside club during Jurgen Klopp’s time at Anfield, was a steady backup to Andrew Robertson since his arrival at the club, but the Hungarian’s arrival ensured he did not have a place in Arne Slot’s plans.

In what has been a surprising twist in the tale, Tottenham have a verbal agreement for Andrew Robertson, with the experienced full-back also pushing for the move. Liverpool will feel a shortage in the left-back area as they cannot finish the season with Kerkez alone, and the team does not have versatile options like on the right-hand side to make adjustments.

Hence, Liverpool will either have to find a replacement in the form of a new signing or internal solutions. They have leaned towards the latter, as the Premier League champions now contemplate recalling Kostas Tsimikas from his loan spell at AS Roma, which has not worked out in the 29-year-old’s favour so far.

Liverpool do not have a recall option, as the idea to bring Tsimikas back will require discussions with AS Roma over cancelling the loan. The Greek full-back has made 11 Serie A appearances this season, but only four of those were starts, and he could be recalled to add cover in the left-back position, as Robertson could then make his move to Spurs.

AS Roma to let go of Kostas Tsimikas?

As per Fabrizio Romano, AS Roma have green-lit the idea of sending Tsimikas back to Liverpool, with club-to-club contact taking place to find a viable solution. His return would allow Slot to replace Robertson and bring about the level of experience needed to fill the position.

However, there will be criticisms of the club as they could have gone into the market for a new left-back signing. Once the season is over, they may have to find a new left-back as the 29-year-old Greek is likely to leave permanently, given he will enter the final year of his deal, but at the moment, recalling him might be sensible, given he knows how to operate in that backline.
