Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.
He was very close to leaving the club during the summer transfer window, but the move did not materialise.
According to a report from Football Insider, Aston Villa are now prepared to sanction his departure this month.
He has been linked with Italian clubs in recent weeks, and it will be interesting to see if any club is willing to provide him with an exit route. Martinez has not been at his best this season, and this could be the ideal time for Aston Villa to cash in on him.
Pete O’Rourke explained: “We thought he was going to leave in the summer window, we had those scenes in the last game of the season at Villa Park.
“He was waving to the crowd and in tears, and we expected that would be the last time we would see Martinez in an Aston Villa shirt.
“Obviously a move didn’t materialise in the summer window, but he’s one of the top goalkeepers in the world and its no surprise clubs are looking at him.
“We know that Inter Milan are probably going to be in the market for a new goalkeeper come next summer because Yan Sommer is out of contract and Martinez would tick a lot of boxes for them.
“It won’t be an easy deal to do due to probably the fee Villa would look for him would be pretty high.
“For Villa, obviously, we know their financial situation with PSR maybe a strategic sale could be something that would be of interest to them if they could make a big profit.
“So look, he’s been the subject of speculation for the last couple of transfer windows and it looks like his future will be the same in this upcoming summer transfer window as well.
“There’s no doubts Martinez is a player that a lot of clubs would love to sign.”
He has been an important player for Aston Villa since joining the club, and he is certainly one of the best players in his position. Losing him would be a blow for most teams, but Aston Villa have already signed Marco Bizot, who will replace the 33-year-old.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan are interested in signing the 33-year-old this month. They are looking at him as the long-term replacement for Yann Sommer.
The opportunity to join one of the biggest clubs in Italy will be hard to turn down for the South American.
He will look to compete at the highest level and fight for major trophies. He has won the World Cup and Copa America with his country and he will look to win major trophies at club level now. Aston Villa might not be able to provide him with that platform, and a move to Inter Milan would be ideal for him.
It remains to be seen whether the two clubs can reach an agreement before the January transfer window closes.
