West Ham United and Napoli are reportedly keen on signing 32-year-old English international Harry Maguire in a bargain deal this summer if he leaves Manchester United.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, West Ham United and Napoli are interested in Harry Maguire. The two clubs are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back this year. So, the 32-year-old Manchester United defender has emerged as a target for them.
While the Englishman has entered the final six months of his contract with Manchester United, he wants to extend his stay at Old Trafford beyond the 2025/26 season. However, the Red Devils only want to tie their former captain to a deal if he is ready to take a significant paycut on his £190,000-a-week wages.
How has Harry Maguire fared at Manchester United?
Harry Maguire has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Manchester United from Leicester City in a deal worth £80 million in July 2019. The 32-year-old has been one of the most polarising figures at Old Trafford in the past decade, and Erik ten Hag stripped him of the club captaincy during his reign at the club. However, the veteran centre-back has resurrected his fortunes in the last 18 months.
The 32-year-old has made over 250 appearances for Manchester United thus far while chipping in with 17 goals and nine assists. However, Maguire’s long-term future at Old Trafford is uncertain, as he has entered the final six months of his contract. The situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, with Napoli and West Ham United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
A man in demand
Harry Maguire has been on West Ham United’s wishlist for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, as Max Kilman faces an uncertain future at the London Stadium. Additionally, Jean-Clair Todibo and Konstantinos Mavropanos have failed to make their mark during their stints with West Ham. So, Maguire has emerged as a viable target for West Ham.
As for Napoli, Antonio Conte is eager to reinforce his squad’s defensive unit this year as he looks to transform the Partenopei into a force in Italian football. Several centre-backs have thus emerged on Napoli’s wishlist, with the Serie A title hopefuls also setting their sights on Maguire.
