Manchester United have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Al-Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves, following Real Madrid’s decision.
Ruben Neves could end up securing a return to the Premier League this month, as Real Madrid have taken a back seat in the race. According to O Jogo via Sport Witness, Los Blancos have ruled out a January move for the Portuguese international.
Neves made quite a name for himself while playing for Wolves. His impressive rise resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. But in a surprising turn of events, the 28-year-old ended up moving to the Middle East in the summer of 2023.
The Portuguese international ended up joining Saudi giants Al-Hilal. Neves has been one of the standout performers for them. However, his future has become a massive talking point because of his contract situation.
He has entered the final six months of his deal and is free to negotiate a pre-contract with foreign clubs. Al-Hilal are working hard to tie him down to a new deal. The Portuguese midfielder already has an offer on the table. However, he is reluctant to put pen to paper and is looking to secure a return to Europe.
Manchester United can sign Neves this month
Ruben Neves looks set to leave them this summer, but a winter move cannot be ruled out amidst interest from Manchester United. While reports earlier suggested Real Madrid could end up making a move for him, the Spanish giants are not looking to make any significant changes to their squad midway through the season.
Neves would love a move to the Spanish capital, but Florentino Perez has ruled out a winter move, giving Manchester United a clearer path to bring him back to England. Despite the departure of Ruben Amorim, the Red Devils remain keen on signing the 28-year-old amid uncertainty around the long-term future of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro.
Another report from Record suggests Manchester United would be willing to fork out €20 million to bring Neves to Old Trafford this month. With Real Madrid no longer in the picture, it will be interesting to see if Manchester United actually manage to sign him.
