Manchester United have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Al-Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves, following Real Madrid’s decision.
Ruben Neves could end up securing a return to the Premier League this month, as Real Madrid have taken a back seat in the race. According to O Jogo via Sport Witness, Los Blancos have ruled out a January move for the Portuguese international.
Neves made quite a name for himself while playing for Wolves. His impressive rise resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. But in a surprising turn of events, the 28-year-old ended up moving to the Middle East in the summer of 2023.
He ended up joining Saudi giants Al-Hilal. Neves has been one of the standout performers for them. However, his future has become a massive talking point because of his contract situation.
He has entered the final six months of his deal and is free to negotiate a pre-contract with foreign clubs. Al-Hilal are working hard to tie him down to a new deal. The Portuguese star already has an offer on the table. However, he is reluctant to put pen to paper and is looking to secure a return to Europe.
Manchester United can sign Neves this month
He looks set to leave them next summer, but a winter move can’t be ruled out amidst interest from Manchester United. While reports earlier suggested Real Madrid could end up making a move for him, the Spanish giants are not looking to make any significant changes to their squad mid-season.
Neves would love a move to the Spanish capital, but Florentino Perez has ruled out a winter move, giving United a clearer path to bring him back to England. Despite the departure of Ruben Amorim, the Red Devils remain keen on signing the 28-year-old amid uncertainty around the long-term future of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro.
Another report from Record suggests United would be willing to fork out €20 million to bring Neves to Old Trafford this month. With Real Madrid no longer in the picture, it will be interesting to see if United actually manage to sign him.
