Galatasaray hold informal talks to sign Tomas Soucek, deal difficult

Galatasaray will reportedly look to sign 30-year-old Czech midfielder Tomas Soucek from West Ham United in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by Czech outlet Infotbal, Tomas Soucek is the subject of interest from Galatasaray. The Turkish Super Lig champions are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a versatile and productive midfielder in the final days of the winter transfer window. So, the 30-year-old West Ham United veteran has emerged as a target for Cimbom.

While the Turkish heavyweights have yet to submit an offer to West Ham, they have held informal talks to secure a January move for the Czech midfielder. However, a deal may not materialise, as Soucek “is not considering a move to Turkey and wants to continue in the English Premier League” beyond the winter transfer window.

How has Tomas Soucek fared in his West Ham United journey so far?

Tomas Soucek has established himself as one of the most reliable midfielders in the Premier League since joining West Ham United in a deal worth €21 million from Slavia Praha. The East London club initially signed the 30-year-old on loan in January 2020 before completing a permanent move in the subsequent summer transfer window.

The Czechia international has made his mark for West Ham United due to his ability to chip in with strikes in the final third. Soucek made over 250 appearances for West Ham thus far, scoring 44 goals and providing 13 assists. Meanwhile, the player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Galatasaray among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the final days of the winter transfer window.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Galatasaray’s interest in Tomas Soucek is understandable. The Turkish giants have been scouring the market for a versatile midfielder heading into the winter transfer window, as Gabriel Sara faces an uncertain future at the club. Several candidates, including Manuel Ugarte, have thus emerged on Galatasaray’s wishlist, with Soucek also a viable target.

The Turkish Super Lig champions have yet to submit a bid to sign the veteran Czech midfielder in the winter transfer window. However, “informal talks and taps on the subject have taken place” amid the desire to sign a top-notch midfielder in the winter transfer window.

However, the 30-year-old Czechia international “is not considering a move to Turkey and wants to continue in the English Premier League” beyond the winter transfer window. So, Galatasaray must look elsewhere for a midfielder, as Soucek may not join Cimbom this month.
