Turkish Super Lig giants Fenerbahce are reportedly keen on signing 20-year-old French attacking prospect Mathys Tel on loan from Tottenham Hotspur this month.
According to a report by Turkish outlet Milliyet, Mathys Tel is the subject of interest from Fenerbahce. The Turkish Super Lig giants are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a versatile attacker in the winter transfer window. So, the 20-year-old Tottenham Hotspur attacking prospect has emerged as a target for them.
The Yellow Canaries are preparing for Youssef En-Nesyri’s departure in the winter transfer window amid the Moroccan striker’s links with Everton, Napoli, and Juventus. So, Tel has emerged as a target for Fenerbahce, with the Turkish outfit in talks with Tottenham over a possible loan deal.
How has Mathys Tel fared at Tottenham?
Mathys Tel has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Tottenham Hotspur from Bayern Munich. The Sarcelles native spent most of his formative years in his France and graduated from the youth division at Stade Rennais. However, the 20-year-old failed to establish a foothold at Bayern Munich after moving to the Allianz Arena in July 2022.
Tottenham finally handed an escape route to Tel in February 2025, initially completing a loan deal before sealing a permanent move for £30 million last summer. However, the French attacker has yet to become a regular starter for Tottenham, managing only 74 minutes of game time in 20 outings thus far in the 2025/26 season while chipping in with three goals. Nevertheless, the youngster’s stock is high, with Fenerbahce among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
Turkish adventure beckons?
Fenerbahce’s interest in Mathys Tel is understandable. The Yellow Canaries have been combing the market for a productive and versatile attacker heading into the winter transfer window, as they are preparing to part ways with Youssef En-Nesyri. The Moroccan international is a target for several well-known clubs, and a January exit is on the cards.
So, Domenico Tedesco wants an attacker who can fulfil multiple roles in the final third. Tel has thus emerged as a viable target for Fenerbahce, with the Turkish outfit in talks with Tottenham over a possible loan deal. However, a January switch will not be straightforward, as the Lilywhites will not sanction the 20-year-old Frenchman’s departure this month.
While Tel has become increasingly frustrated with his situation at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, particularly after being excluded from the UEFA Champions League squad, a January exit may not materialise.
