Everton are plotting a surprise raid on Napoli to sign former Manchester United and Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku.
Romelu Lukaku, who was sidelined with a hamstring injury and didn’t make any appearances in the first half of the season, could end up securing a return to the Premier League. According to a report from Fichajes, Everton are keen on re-signing the Belgian international, as they look to reinforce their attack.
Lukaku was a part of the Everton setup from 2013 to 2017. During that four-year spell, he was involved in 166 matches and ended up contributing towards 114 goals (87 goals, 27 assists). His exceptional performances for the Merseyside club earned him a big-money move to Manchester United.
Unfortunately, things didn’t work out for him at Old Trafford. After reviving his career in the Italian top flight, he returned to the Premier League to play for Chelsea. But even the move to Stamford Bridge didn’t go as planned.
Lukaku reunited with Antonio Conte at Napoli in the summer of 2024, and he had a dream debut campaign, helping the team win the Serie A with 14 goals and 10 assists in 36 league outings.
While he was on fire last season, the 32-year-old hasn’t made a single appearance this season, as he was out injured. The 32-year-old still has well over a year left on his deal, and he could still be a very useful option for Conte’s team. But it seems they have decided to offload him on an immediate basis.
The Naples-based club are ready to accept a fee between €15 and €20 million to finalise his departure. Letting him leave will be a massive boost for them financially, as he is on massive wages. They are even willing to negotiate a lower fee, as getting him off their books is a top priority.

Everton want to sign Lukaku in January
Everton are aware of Lukaku’s situation at Napoli, and they are looking to make the most out of it. David Moyes is desperate to have more firepower in the final third, and a proven goal scorer like the Belgian international can certainly help.
Moyes isn’t pleased with Beto and Thierno Barry’s performances. While Barry has slowly started to get going, he wants a more experienced striker to lead the line and bringing Lukaku back to the club is a massive boost for the club and the fans.
The Merseyside club are gearing up to make a move for him in the coming days. While he is on the wrong side of 30, he could still prove to be a very useful addition to Everton.
