Adam Wharton poised to leave Crystal Palace this summer

Adam Wharton is widely expected to leave Crystal Palace for a bigger challenge in the summer, with top Premier League sides alert.

According to TEAMtalk, Crystal Palace are expecting Adam Wharton’s departure in the summer, with the midfielder angling for a new and bigger challenge. The Selhurst Park mainstay will have no shortage of interest with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham all alert to his situation.

Adam Wharton is one of the best young midfield talents in the Premier League, as Crystal Palace’s gamble in signing him from Blackburn Rovers has paid off massively. The Eagles invested an initial £18-22 million on the 21-year-old back in the January transfer window of 2024, and he has since helped them lift the FA Cup and the Community Shield.

The Englishman’s current deal at the club expires only in 2029, which does give Palace enough leeway and power in keeping hold of the midfielder. However, Wharton is already angling for a new challenge in his career, as Crystal Palace are widely expecting Wharton to depart in the summer, with the report stating a base fee of at least £65 million, including add-ons.

There were suggestions that Crystal Palace will demand significantly more than that in the past, while they have also tried to open talks over a new deal with the midfielder. However, it may be the case that owing to his rising stature, the young midfielder might be in line to leave the Premier League club with a host of top teams in the division interested, including Tottenham, Manchester United and Liverpool.

Liverpool have been unsure at some stage about Wharton being the absolute first choice for their midfield, but they will be alert to his availability. The Merseysiders have been looking for a top-notch option to upgrade their midfield for some time now, with the Crystal Palace star now firmly a fixture on their list.

Which club will sign Adam Wharton?

Tottenham are ready to go all out to bring Wharton to the club, and they will have a big chance next summer if they can qualify for the UEFA Champions League. A player like the £65 million-rated English midfielder will want top-tier European football on offer, something Spurs might not provide given their current plight.

Manchester United have looked at Wharton closely over the last few months, as they view the Englishman as a big target for the future of their midfield. The Red Devils do have other names on their list, including Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson, although they might be planning to sign at least two of those three rather than just one, with Wharton certainly a big target.
