Manchester United have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Middlesbrough midfield sensation Hayden Hackney.
Hayden Hackney’s sensational rise at Middlesbrough hasn’t gone unnoticed. Multiple English clubs are keen on signing the Championship star. According to a report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham and Manchester City are both keen on his signature.
Hackney has been a part of the Middlesbrough setup since his childhood days. He got promoted to their first team in the summer of 2022 and hasn’t looked back since.
Premier League duo linked with Hackney
With less than 18 months left on his deal, his future has become a massive talking point. Multiple top clubs in the country want to prise him away. Tottenham and Manchester United are two of the clubs that have been linked with the 23-year-old defender.
The North London club were interested in his services during the last summer window. They were set to revive their interest in the youngster, but it seems Tottenham have pulled out of the race. Having signed Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid for just £34 million, Spurs no longer need to add another midfielder to the mix.
While Thomas Frank’s team have taken a back seat, United remain keen on his signature. Amidst uncertainty around Bruno Fernandes, Manuel Ugarte, Casemiro, and Kobbie Mainoo’s long-term future, Hackney certainly seems to be a deal fit for the club.
United retain interest in Hackney
The caretaker manager is a long-term admirer of the 23-year-old, and having worked with him in the past, he is optimistic about him having the desired impact at Old Trafford. Their scouts have continued to track him, and they look set to test Middlesbrough’s resolve.
The Championship outfit have no intentions of accepting a cut-price fee despite the fact that his contract is running out. They want a minimum of £30 million to sanction his departure, and are going to stick to it until the end.
Since Middlesbrough are in the race to secure promotion, they would prefer to have him around at least until the end of the season. However, it will all depend on the interested clubs and their financial strength.
