Manchester City ready to sell Rico Lewis

Manchester City eyeing Pablo Barrios as Martin Zubimendi alternative.

Manchester City could consider offers for Rico Lewis in the near future and bring in a solid replacement in place of the academy graduate.

According to Fichajes, Manchester City could sell Rico Lewis if they were to receive a big enough offer closer to his market value. The report states his value in the region of 35 million, as the club have lost confidence in the player to come good in the future.

Rico Lewis broke through into the Manchester City first team squad with plenty of promise, showcasing his versatility in different positions. He has played more in a right-back role and occasionally in midfield, as the academy graduate has made 112 senior appearances since.

However, since the mid-point of last season until now, his influence and importance on Pep Guardiola’s side have diminished significantly. At the moment, he is nothing more than a squad option and occasionally starts games in the right back role if Guardiola wants to give Matheus Nunes a rest.

In that capacity, he started the Manchester Derby loss at the weekend and came in for plenty of criticism. As a follow-up to that performance and the fan sentiment, the report states, Manchester City are ready to cash in on the player, which could make Lewis a part of a long list of academy graduates who were sold on a profit.

He did have interest from Nottingham Forest in the summer, and at one stage, the move looked close to getting completed. However, Lewis was either convinced of staying at the club or chose not to leave, and has since signed a new five-year deal at the Etihad. Now, the report states he has a market value of €35 million, something the Blues will consider if they were to receive an offer in that region.

Manchester City to sell Rico Lewis?

Lewis also had thoughts about leaving Manchester City in the summer in an attempt to re-establish himself as a key star elsewhere. Now, the club are open to selling him, and they have already earmarked Tino Livramento as a potential right-back target in the near future.

There were attempts to send him to Newcastle United in exchange for Livramento as per reports back in the summer, but the Magpies were uninterested. As things stand, Manchester City would be willing to offload the €35 million-rated defender in the future, which looks likely in the summer rather than this month.
