Crystal Palace have reportedly rejected a €30 million package for a loan with a conditional obligation from Juventus for Jean-Philippe Mateta.
According to Calciomercato, Juventus have failed with a €30 million offer for Jean-Philippe Mateta. The Serie A giants had hoped to take the striker on loan with a conditional obligation included as part of the package, but Crystal Palace are only prepared to sell on their terms.
Crystal Palace find themselves at a crossroads about their project, as some of the decisions could derail what they have built in the last couple of years. The summer sale of Eberechi Eze, followed by the prospect of losing Marc Guehi back then, saw manager Oliver Glasner express himself rather vividly.
Guehi has since been sold to Manchester City this week, and Glasner has subsequently announced his desire to leave the club at the end of the season. Now, Crystal Palace are staring at the prospect of losing another one of their key stars in Jean-Philippe Mateta, with the striker already thinking about taking the ‘next step’ in his career.
Juventus have been interested in signing Mateta, and despite there other clubs admiring the forward, some even from the Premier League, the Bianconeri are currently leading the pack. They have striker issues as the form of summer arrivals Jonathan David and Lois Openda have not improved since, while Dusan Vlahovic is staring towards the exit door.
A need for a prolific striker seems imperative for Juventus, who reportedly have an agreement with Mateta over a move. The Frenchman is ready to make the step up from Crystal Palace, although the two clubs are yet to find an agreement, as the Bianconeri have failed with a loan approach.
Juventus to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta?
Juventus have reportedly failed with a loan approach for the 28-year-old Crystal Palace star, which would have amounted to a €30 million package. The Bianconeri offered to pay €2 million as loan fee, with another €28 million attached to a conditional obligation which would be triggered if they qualify for next season’s Champions League or Europa League.
Crystal Palace have turned down, as they reportedly want either a permanent transfer or an unconditional obligation for their 28-year-old striker. Juventus are expected to return for fresh talks to find a solution, and Mateta could be on his way out of Palace before the January transfer deadline.
