West Ham United join Newcastle United in Guillaume Restes chase, initiate move

West Ham United are ready to explore a move for Guillaume Restes this month in an effort to sign the Toulouse star, with Newcastle United also keen.

According to Media Foot, West Ham United are interested in a move for Guillaume Restes this month in an attempt to strengthen the goalkeeping ranks. The Toulouse star’s performances in Ligue 1 have attracted plenty of suitors, including Newcastle United, but the Hammers are pushing to get a deal done in January.

West Ham United are looking for solutions to strengthen their squad before the January transfer window shuts, as they still have a few more areas to reinforce. The East London outfit have already signed two strikers in Taty Castellanos and Pablo in the earlier part of the window, and now they could angle for new players.

A new goalkeeper is firmly on their agenda, as Nuno Espirito Santo is unhappy with his current choices of Alphonse Areola and Mads Hermansen. The latter is still widely expected to leave the club despite making a big-money move from Leicester City in the summer.

A few names have been linked of late, including Brazil international Bento, who reportedly preferred to join Genoa over West Ham. There are some others as targets, with some reports stating the Hammers failed with a move for Barcelona star Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Chelsea’s Filip Jorgensen is another name being mentioned, and now they are linked with Toulouse’s 20-year-old keeper Guillaume Restes. The young Frenchman has made his mark with some impressive performances for Toulouse, and he has turned up 92 times for the senior side. The Hammers are now ready to push for a move this month itself, with the keeper reportedly valued at €20 million in the current market.

West Ham to beat off competition for Restes?

West Ham are trying to get a deal in place and accelerate their pursuit of Restes, but they are not alone in the race to sign the €20 million-rated goalkeeper. Tottenham had been looking at him as they could upgrade on Guglielmo Vicario, while Newcastle United also remain keen.

It is the Magpies that are much more serious about trying to sign him, as they also hold an interest in Manchester City’s James Trafford. However, Newcastle United are not expected to make a move for the Toulouse goalkeeper this month, given they already have two quality keepers in the squad, which will boost West Ham United’s chances in the race to sign Restes.
