Nuno Espirito Santo’s West Ham United are interested in acquiring the services of Flamengo attacking mainstay Gonzalo Plata.
After a disappointing first half of the season, West Ham United have been quite active in the ongoing transfer window in hopes of significantly bolstering their squad and increasing their chances of surviving in the English top flight.
While they are focused on adding more quality to their team, they could end up parting ways with Lucas Paqueta. The Brazilian international is pushing hard to secure a return to his childhood club, Flamengo. With him all set to return to his homeland, the Hammers have already identified an ideal replacement. According to a report from Bolavip Brasil, the London club wants to sign Gonzalo Plata from Flamengo.
Plata joined the Brazilian outfit in the summer of 2024 from Al-Sadd. The 25-year-old winger has been involved in 70 matches and has contributed towards 17 goals. While he prefers playing on the right flank, he is capable enough to feature anywhere in attack.
His consistent performances have placed him on West Ham’s radar, who are looking to bring in someone who could fill the void left by the potential departure of Paqueta. While the 28-year-old remains an integral part of the Hammers’ first team, he seems very keen on securing a return to his boyhood club.
He has already informed the Hammers about his desire and has an agreement on personal terms with Flamengo. While the Brazilian club remain in talks with the Premier League outfit, they are optimistic about getting a deal over the line.
Plata to replace Paqueta at West Ham?
With Paqueta set to leave, the London club want to bring in someone who can not only help them cope with his absence but also add cover on the flanks. They consider the experienced Plata an ideal fit for their project under Nuno.
The Hammers have already made contact with Flamengo to sign the 25-year-old. The Brazilian outfit are considering offering him as part of the deal to sign Paqueta, as it will help them significantly lower the financial burden.
