Liverpool, Manchester City set on Marc Guehi plans

Liverpool and Manchester City have ideas on how the pursue the Marc Guehi transfer, with the latter ready to bid this month.

According to Team Talk, Marc Guehi’s future remains the big topic of this summer window as Liverpool and Manchester City have made their plans clear. The former are unwilling to sanction a bid this month, while it is Manchester City who are pushing to get a deal done now rather than wait until the end of the season.

Marc Guehi remains the biggest market opportunity in the transfer market in this window, but there are many complications in signing the 25-year-old centre-back. Crystal Palace are reportedly open to a sale this month if they can get the right offer, which the report states could be around the £35 million mark, as they would also need to pay high on a replacement.

Guehi, however, is leaning towards a summer move on a free transfer when his contract with Palace expires. In recent weeks, Manchester City have entered the race in a big way, after the injuries to Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias, with the former set to miss the remainder of the season.

Manchester City are keen to sign the 25-year-old centre-back now rather than wait until the summer, and are willing to offer Guehi a lucrative contract. While they are willing to fork out a significant fee to facilitate a deal, the added caveat is that Guehi is also expecting a hefty signing-on bonus. Those factors make the deal rather expensive, something strange in the January window, especially given the player’s contract situation.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are ready to wait until the summer and retain confidence about signing the 25-year-old centre-back on a free transfer. Arsenal are also part of the race as things stand, as are Real Madrid and Barcelona, as all those teams barring Manchester City are only angling for a summer deal, which does put the onus on Pep Guardiola’s side to convince the player and get a deal over the line.

Will Marc Guehi leave Crystal Palace this month?

Palace would be open as mentioned before, but Guehi is not in a rush to leave, as he is open to staying and finishing the season at Selhurst Park. Understandably, he would have his pick of options to choose from in the summer, given the variety of clubs chasing the 25-year-old centre-back.

Manchester City could make a push and offer him a deal that is reminiscent of one he would get on a free transfer, which may see them include a massive signing-on fee. However, given Liverpool’s connections with his camp, as well as the recent interest from Arsenal, there’s a big chance that Guehi rejects Manchester City’s overtures and sees out his deal at Palace.
