Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Benfica’s teenage right-back Daniel Banjaqui as a potential replacement for the injured Conor Bradley.
According to Team Talk, Benfica’s teenage right-back Daniel Banjaqui is a potential target for Liverpool this month as they ponder signing a replacement for the injured Conor Bradley. The club are yet to make a decision, but the Benfica man could be seen as a fit for the future rather than a clear first-team member.
Liverpool were rocked by the injury to Conor Bradley, which further diminishes their defensive power ahead of the second half of the season. The Reds were considered short at the back with limited options at Arne Slot’s disposal, and now their starting right back has suffered a season-ending injury to his knee and undergone surgery.
With Bradley now out for the season, there are rumours that the club are angling for a new right back to add to the squad. Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Ryerson was linked lately, while Monaco’s Vanderson is also being considered as a potential option.
They also held an interest in Feyenoord’s Givairo Read earlier, but it remains to be seen whether Slot would consider signing the player from his former side. A new name has emerged on their list, with that of 17-year-old defensive sensation from Benfica, Daniel Banjaqui.
The teenager does not have much experience in the top level of the game, with most of his senior appearances coming for Benfica’s B team. Hence, there are considerable doubts whether Liverpool views Banjaqui as a potential option for their first team, let alone a direct replacement for Bradley.
Will Liverpool sign Banjaqui or any new defender?
Liverpool are interested in Banjaqui as a potential option either now or in the future, but there are ample discussions taking place in the background to put together plans for this month. There are calls for young defender Calvin Ramsey to be given a chance in the absence of Bradley, while Wataru Endo is also seen as a potential backup to the right-back position, which Jeremie Frimpong is likely to assume moving ahead.
Hence, there are considerable doubts whether Liverpool will move ahead in the window in pursuit of Banjaqui or any other new right back. They might see out the season with whatever options are left at the back, as they do plan another big summer spree where the focus will be on strengthening the backline.
