AS Monaco want to keep Eric Dier amid West Ham United links

Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco will not part ways with 31-year-old English defender Eric Dier in the winter transfer window amid his links with West Ham United.

According to a report by Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, Eric Dier is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are eager to reinforce their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the winter transfer window. So, the 31-year-old AS Monaco defender has emerged as a target for the East London outfit.

However, the latest report has revealed that the Ligue 1 giants “have no plans” to sell the Englishman in the winter transfer window. So, while Dier has emerged as a target for West Ham, the experienced defender “is expected to stay” until the end of the 2025/26 season.

How has Eric Dier fared in Ligue 1?

Eric Dier has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining AS Monaco from Bayern Munich this past summer. The 31-year-old has been adventurous in recent years, as he completed a shock move to Bayern Munich two years ago before embarking on an 18-month stint with the Bavarian giants.

The former English international has struggled with fitness issues during his stint with AS Monaco, managing only 810 minutes of game time across nine appearances thus far for the Ligue 1 club. However, Dier’s stock remains high, and he may return to the Premier League soon, with West Ham United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the winter transfer window.

London return on the cards?

Recent reports have claimed that intermediaries offered West Ham United the chance to sign Eric Dier in the winter transfer window. The Hammers have reciprocated by showing interest in the former Tottenham defender, as Max Kilman faces an uncertain future at the London Stadium amid his links with Crystal Palace.

Additionally, Jean-Clair Todibo and Konstantinos Mavropanos have not been consistent enough during their stints with West Ham. Several candidates, including Yann Bisseck, have thus emerged on West Ham’s wishlist. However, Dier is also an option worth considering due to the 31-year-old Englishman’s extensive experience in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur.

However, the latest report has revealed that a January deal will not materialise due to AS Monaco’s reluctance to part ways with Dier midway through the 2025/26 season. While the English utility man has not played a Ligue 1 game since October, he is “not expected to leave” the Ligue 1 club in the winter transfer window. So, West Ham must look elsewhere for a new centre-back.
