Arne Slot’s Liverpool have agreed a new deal with their midfield mainstay, Dominik Szoboszlai, amidst interest from Real Madrid.
Dominik Szoboszlai’s consistent performances for Liverpool have resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. While he still has over two years left on his initial contract, clubs were ready to try to prise him away.
The Reds are well aware of the increasing interest, and they have been working hard to secure his long-term future with a new deal. According to a report from CaughtOffside, the Merseyside club have finally managed to reach an agreement with the Hungarian international.
They have an agreement in principle with the 25-year-old over a new deal, which is a massive blow for Real Madrid, who are quite keen on his signature.
Szoboszlai made a name for himself at RB Leipzig before joining the Reds in the summer of 2023, and he has only gone from strength to strength since. While he prefers playing as a number ten, he has been equally effective in a deeper role and has even chipped in as a right-back when needed.
Real Madrid won’t be able to land Szoboszlai
The 25-year-old has had a sensational start to the 2025/26 season. He has been involved in 26 games across competitions and has contributed towards 10 goals. Thanks to his consistent performances, he finds himself on Real Madrid’s wishlist.
Los Blancos are constantly on the lookout for players who could further bolster their squad, and they believe Szoboszlai is an ideal fit for their project. He could be the midfielder Xabi Alonso has been looking for since taking charge of the Spanish club.
While they have been showing concrete interest, Real Madrid have suffered a massive blow as Liverpool are closing in on a new deal with the Hungarian international. They have reached an agreement in principle with the 25-year-old.
There was no urgency to hand him a new contract, but Liverpool wanted to fend off interest and secure his long-term future as they consider him one of the cornerstones of their project going forward.
