Everton eyeing January move for Emil Holm

West Ham United are set to compete with Everton for Preston North End wonderkid Lewis Leigh

Everton will reportedly look to sign 25-year-old Swedish international Emil Holm from Serie A club Bologna in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by reputed Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Emil Holm is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a right-back in the winter transfer window. So, the 25-year-old Bologna full-back has emerged as a target for the Merseyside club.

Who is Emil Holm?

Emil Holm has made gradual progress since joining Bologna from Spezia Calcio in July 2024. A native of Goteborg, the Swede spent his formative years in his homeland, starting his youth career with Annebergs IF before graduating from the youth division at IFK Goteborg.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old has extensive experience in Serie A, having represented Spezia Calcio, Atalanta, and Bologna in the past half a decade. However, Holm has been in and out of the starting lineup during his spell with the Rossoblu, having been a regular in the UEFA Europa League this term while sharing game time in Serie A.

Holm has made nearly 50 appearances for Bologna thus far while chipping in with two goals and six assists. Meanwhile, the Swedish full-back’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Everton will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the winter transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Everton’s interest in Emil Holm is understandable. The Toffees have been scouring the market for a right-back heading into the winter transfer window, as Jake O’Brien has been the only option for the position for most of the 2025/26 season. With Seamus Coleman in the twilight of his career and Nathan Patterson struggling with fitness issues throughout his spell with Everton, they need a new right-back.

Several candidates, including Zakaria El Ouahdi, have thus emerged on Everton’s wishlist, with Holm also a viable target. Additionally, the Merseyside club’s forays into the Italian market have taken them to Genoa defender Brooke Norton-Cuffy.

With Everton identifying two possible right-back targets this week, a deal for one may be on the cards, thus taking some load off O’Brien’s shoulders. It will be interesting to see if the 25-year-old Swedish international ends his spell with Bologna to join Everton in the coming weeks.
