Cristian Romero wants to leave Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur’s defensive mainstay, Cristian Romero, is looking to part ways with the North London club.

Cristian Romero’s future has been a big talking point over the last few transfer windows. The Argentine international has often been linked with a move away from Tottenham, and it seems he could finally leave them at the end of the season.

According to a report from Fichajes, Romero is seeking a move away from the North London club next summer. He will hand in a transfer request if Thomas Frank’s continued presence at the club is not guaranteed. He also wants the club to make a significant investment to bolster their squad.

After making a name for himself at Atalanta, Romero joined Spurs in the summer of 2021. While it was an initial loan deal, the move was made permanent in the following summer. The 27-year-old has only gone from strength to strength over the years.

Not only has he established himself as one of their mainstays, but he is also widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the world. While he struggled with injuries last season, Romero did play a big part in their Europa League triumph.

He has regained full fitness and has been a constant feature in their XI under Thomas Frank this season. Amidst uncertainty around his future, Tottenham handed him a new deal last summer to secure his long-term future.

Romero could push for a move away

While it did put the rumours to bed, it seems he could still force an exit next summer. The Argentine international is not pleased with their project, as they struggle to get the desired result. While Frank is facing all the heat, Romero feels it’s the players who are at fault, not the manager.

He has backed the manager and wants him to continue at the club at all costs. He feels the club’s success depends on keeping the same tactical setup and investing in world-class talents who can allow Frank to fully implement his ideas.

He has made his desires known to the club, and if they do not respond with ambitious planning, the 27-year-old will hand in a transfer request next summer. If Romero becomes available, there certainly won’t be any shortage of takers.
