Tottenham submit improved offer to sign Souza

Tottenham Hotspur will hope to sign 19-year-old Brazilian full-back prodigy Souza from Santos after submitting an improved bid worth £13 million to the South American club.

According to a report by Sky Sports journalists Michael Bridge and Lyall Thomas, Souza is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The 2024/25 UEFA Europa League winners are keen on bolstering their defensive unit by signing a left-back in the winter transfer window. So, the 19-year-old Santos wonderkid has emerged as a target for the North London club.

Tottenham recently failed with a bid worth £8 million to sign the South American sensation. However, that has not deterred the Premier League outfit, and they have now offered £13 million to secure his services. The Lilywihites are now increasingly optimistic about landing the 2006-born full-back prospect, and the teenage sensation is keen on moving to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Who is Souza?

Joao Victor de Souza Menezes, better known as Souza, is the latest promising prodigy to rise in prominence in his homeland. Born in Maua, he has spent his formative years thus far in Brazil, joining Santos as a ten-year-old in 2016 before progressing through the ranks in the club’s academy. The 19-year-old broke into the first-team squad in the first few weeks of the 2024 season, making his senior bow in February 2024.

The youngster has made nearly 50 appearances for Santos thus far while chipping in with one goal and four assists. Meanwhile, the Brazilian full-back prodigy’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Tottenham Hotspur will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the winter transfer window.

London calling?

Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Souza is understandable. Thomas Frank wants the North London club to sign a left-back in the winter transfer window, as Destiny Udogie has endured a topsy-turvy ride during his spell at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium while struggling with fitness issues.

Several candidates have thus emerged on Tottenham’s wishlist, with the Santos wonderkid also a viable target. While the Lilywhites recently failed with a bid worth £8 million, they did not throw in the towel in the battle for his signature.

The 2024/25 UEFA Europa League winners are ready to go all out to sign the 19-year-old Brazilian full-back prodigy in the winter transfer window. It will be interesting to see if Souza arrives at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming weeks.
