Tottenham are eager to explore a move for Real Madrid’s second-choice stopper Andriy Lunin as a measure to strengthen their goalkeeping ranks.
According to Fichajes, Andriy Lunin has a big interest from Tottenham as he continues to struggle for games at Real Madrid. Likely to cost in the region of €25 million, the Ukrainian stopper is reportedly open to playing in the Premier League as a first-choice keeper in the near future.
Andriy Lunin was the Real Madrid hero a couple of seasons ago when Thibaut Courtois missed most of the season with a serious injury. The Ukrainian’s efforts helped the club reach the Champions League Final, only for him to miss the grand encounter against Borussia Dortmund, which the Spanish giants won.
Since then, many teams had been angling to sign him, and at the time, he was edging into the final stages of his contract at the club. Real Madrid eventually convinced the Ukrainian to renew until 2030, but he has barely found game time since.
This season, he has not played a single minute in the league, but has featured once in the Champions League and on another occasion in a cup competition. Lunin is desperate for regular game time, and with the January window now open, Tottenham are angling for a move. The report states, Real Madrid will demand at least €25 million for the stopper, which should not bother a team like Sputs.
Tottenham had been addressing their goalkeeping position, with Vicario expected to leave the club this year amid tensions rising from his error-prone displays. The Italian stopper might consider a return to Serie A, where Inter Milan are interested, and his potential departure either now or next summer could spring Spurs into the market for a replacement.
Andriy Lunin to Tottenham?
As per Team Talk, Lunin is open to playing in the Premier League, which may boost Tottenham’s hopes in the present or the near future. There have been other teams interested in the €25 million-rated player, although in the current scheme of things, Spurs’ presence in the Champions League could play a big role.
Should the door open for Lunin to replace Vicario or even compete with the Italian, the €25 million-rated player might consider the idea. For now, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham makes a competitive offer to convince Real Madrid, who might be open to the idea of a sale if the conditions are suitable.
