Brazilian international keeper Bento is ready to snub West Ham United as he prefers to join Serie A side Genoa in this month’s transfer window.
According to Sky Sports, Brazilian goalkeeper Bento is ready to snub West Ham United’s advances and prefers a switch to Genoa. The Al-Nassr star is ready for a new challenge, as the Hammers had hoped to lure him in to solve a key issue in their goalkeeping department.
West Ham United further plunged into trouble after losing their relegation clash with Nottingham Forest to begin this current gameweek. They were already languishing in 18th, and the gap with Forest only increased because of the defeat, as the club are now actively looking for options in this window to strengthen their squad.
They have signed Taty Castellanos from Lazio, as well as Pablo from Gil Vicente, which does resolve a lot of the problems in the centre-forward area. A defender or two might also be on their agenda, as well as a wide forward and a goalkeeper.
The goalkeeping problem has been highly publicised since the summer, having spent a huge chunk of money on former Leicester City star Mads Hermansen. They are now ready to sell the summer signing, while Nuno Espirito Santo is not entirely convinced by experienced stopper Alphonse Areola, as he seeks a new man between the sticks.
Bento, the 26-year-old Brazilian international, is high on the list, as West Ham have held an interest in the Al-Nassr keeper for some time now. There’s the obvious tendency to lure a player towards the Premier League, but the Hammers have found it challenging to convince the keeper to make the switch to England.
Bento so snub West Ham United?
Genoa posed a big threat to West Ham in the race for Bento, as the Italians are now the front-runners for the 26-year-old Brazilian international. It appears the Al-Nassr star is ready to leave the Saudi Arabian side for the Italian club and ready to snub the advances of West Ham in the process.
Both clubs had approached Al-Nassr with a loan move, which could become permanent in the summer. However, it appears Bento is pushing to join Genoa instead of West Ham, which could be due to their current position in the Premier League. Now, the Hammers may end up losing out on the 26-year-old Brazilian international, and could look elsewhere for a new option to solve the goalkeeping problem.
