Tottenham refusing to give up in Souza chase, Newcastle United also involved

Tottenham continue to push hard to secure the services of Souza, amidst interest from rivals Newcastle United.

Tottenham are very keen on reinforcing their backline in the ongoing transfer window, and they have their eyes set on Santos’ emerging full-back, Souza. The North London club are aware of the increasing interest in his services and have already tabled an initial offer.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Spurs proposed an initial deal worth €10 million, but Santos have turned it down as it doesn’t meet their expectations. Despite the rejection, Tottenham haven’t backed away. They retain interest in the teenager and remain in talks with the Brazilian club and his camp, as they look to get a deal over the line this month.

Souza has come up the ranks at Santos and has been a part of their first team since the start of 2024. So far, the 19-year-old full-back has featured in a total of 38 matches for their senior team and has even contributed towards five goals.

His impressive rise and exceptional performances have placed him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in Europe. While his contract with Santos runs until the end of 2028, he seems set to make a move away in the ongoing transfer window.

Premier League duo could battle for Souza

There is interest in his services from clubs in England, Spain and Germany. But reports suggest he could be heading to the Premier League, where Tottenham and Newcastle are both keen on his signature.

The Magpies are constantly on the lookout for young players who can help them in the short and long run. They are massive admirers of the Brazilian youth international and believe he could do wonders for them.

But, as things stand, Spurs are the most advanced of all clubs. They are desperate to beat the competition and have already held talks with the club. While they did propose a deal worth €10 million, Santos value him close to €20 million.

Despite the massive price tag, Tottenham haven’t given up just yet. They remain in talks with the Brazilian club in hopes of reaching a common ground. However, they will have to rush if they want to avoid a bidding war with other top clubs.
