Crystal Palace optimistic of winning Conor Gallagher race

Crystal Palace could grow in confidence about landing Conor Gallagher this month as the midfielder could leave Atletico Madrid.

According to Football Insider, Crystal Palace are confident about signing Conor Gallagher if they are to pursue the midfielder this month. Oliver Glasner eyes reinforcements to improve their progress this season, with the 25-year-old La Liga star seen as a key target, with Manchester United also interested lately.

Crystal Palace are not in the best of positions in the Premier League, as Oliver Glaner has internally called for reinforcements to improve their fortunes. The club are also battling in the Conference League, which represents a tournament they want to win this term.

The Eagles have acted fast in the transfer market, having agreed a deal to sign Brennan Johnson from Tottenham early. Glasner eyes further reinforcements, as a midfielder seems paramount to improve their squad this season, as they are expected to revive an interest in Conor Gallagher.

Palace explored a move back in the summer, but could not convince Gallagher of a departure then, although things have changed for the 25-year-old La Liga star. Atletico Madrid could be open to letting him leave and use any incoming funds to strengthen their squad.

Gallagher could be open to making a return to the Premier League, where Manchester United and Tottenham are also interested. There have been rumblings that Atletico Madrid might also let him leave on a loan if there are guarantees of a future transfer fee in the summer.

Will Crystal Palace sign Conor Gallagher?

Gallagher played for Palace during the 2021-22 season when he was on the books of Chelsea, and that loan spell proved to be highly successful. However, given how much he has risen in his career, there might be doubts about whether he would be open to re-joining them. Should the likes of Manchester United enter the race, they could be a far more attractive destination for Gallagher over Palace.

Given his current plight, where game time at Atletico Madrid does not come with guarantees at the moment, Gallagher needs regular game time ahead of the World Cup. Hence, should Palace come about with a loan proposal, there might be new doors opening in the right direction for the Eagles to sign the 25-year-old La Liga star.
