Juventus have initiated formal contact with Liverpool over a move for former winger Federico Chiesa, who is struggling for game time at Anfield.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Juventus have made formal contact with Liverpool over a move for former star Federico Chiesa. The Italian international is struggling for minutes under Arne Slot, as a route back to Italy is being mooted as the best possible option in the current climate and what lies ahead.
Liverpool famously only signed Federico Chiesa as their solitary summer signing in 2024, in what transpired to be a season they won the Premier League. That was also Arne Slot’s first campaign in charge of the club since replacing the mammoth figure of Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
A common theme from the last season to this one is that Slot has sparingly used Chiesa, despite the Italian showing plenty of good performances and character when called upon. He started the new campaign well with a winning goal against Bournemouth, and despite many of the fans calling for him to play more frequently, Slot has not obliged.
Speculation over a January window move was always about to surface, given Chiesa would need regular game time to feature with Italy at the World Cup. There’s been a lot of interest from Serie A, as Napoli and Roma have made their interest known.
One contender that not many expected to come into the picture are Juventus, with the Turin giants now keen to take him back. As per previous reports, the Bianconeri wanted to take him on a loan deal, but Fabrizio Romano does not clarify that part, as the Italians might even angle for a permanent transfer.
Federico Chiesa back at Juventus?
Chiesa could consider his options this month as a return to his former side, Juventus, is very much a possibility. The Italians have initiated formal contacts with Liverpool over a potential move, as Romano states the decision will be in the hands of the Premier League champions.
Losing a player of the versatile attacker’s quality will certainly weaken Liverpool’s offense, although they might then think about a replacement. For now, there are no movements reported on that front, as there’s also the chance Liverpool ends up keeping the Italian international before deciding on his future next summer.
