Liverpool could be further boosted in their efforts to keep Ibrahima Konate after Florentino Perez’s firm decision in the defender’s pursuit.
According to Fichajes, Florentino Perez has taken a firm stance on the pursuit of Ibrahima Konate, and decided not to chase the defender. Liverpool will see this as a major boost in their efforts to keep hold of the 26-year-old France international, although there are still other clubs keen.
Last year, Real Madrid dominated the headlines with their pursuit of Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the defender eventually moving to the Santiago Bernabeu on a cut-price deal. Ever since, talk of signing Ibrahima Konate when his Liverpool contract expires has taken shape, but things are a bit different on that front.
For many months since the new season began, it was reported that Real Madrid were the front-runners in pursuit of the defender. The 26-year-old is yet to clear his future, with his deal with Liverpool expiring at the end of the season.
Incidentally, a few weeks ago, Real Madrid ruled out a move for Konate and chose to pursue other targets that may include the likes of Dayot Upamecano and Marc Guehi. Despite rumours of intermediaries looking to revive a move to Real Madrid, it appears Florentino Perez has taken a firm stance on the situation.
Perez does not want to pursue Konate anymore, with the 26-year-old’s performances not seen as worthy enough by Real Madrid. Hence, the Spanish giants will pursue other targets to strengthen their backline, as Perez is not interested in entering into a bidding war, especially if Konate chooses not to renew his deal with Real Madrid.
Liverpool to renew Ibrahima Konate’s deal?
Liverpool are confident of a Konate renewal, and they are likely to make a fresh push to get an agreement over the line. There are many challenges ahead for the Reds in their attempts to keep hold of the 26-year-old, which would include a massive pay rise as well as evading challenges from rivals.
Inter Milan are interested, and so are PSG, which could lead to a bidding war, as Konate might take his time over a decision on the future. For now, Liverpool might stay optimistic and begin fresh talks over a new deal in the upcoming period.
