West Ham United preparing bid to sign Charlie Cresswell

West Ham are preparing a bid for Toulouse centre-back Charlie Cresswell in an effort to address their defensive issues.

According to Team Talk, Charlie Cresswell is a serious target for West Ham United with a bid in the works. The Toulouse centre-back is seen as a solution to stop a leaky defence in the second half of the season, with the Hammers confident of getting a deal through the door.

West Ham United have plenty of work ahead in their effort to avoid suffering relegation at the end of the season. Despite periods of promise, Nuno Espirito Santo has failed to lift the team out of the relegation zone, as the Hammers languish in 18th spot, some four points off safety.

Espirito Santo will want some key issues in the squad addressed using the January window, as he targets new arrivals in a few positions. While the Hammers are not flush with cash, they are planning smart moves as well as sales, with the likes of Luis Guilherme expected to be sold.

A striker appeared to be on top of their transfer wishlist, with Gil Vicente star Pablo set to arrive at the London Stadium in the next few days. They have been linked with a few other names, and now that the new forward has been secured, the Hammers are ready to switch their attention to a new defender.

Nathan Ake has reportedly turned down the idea of joining West Ham, which may have already forced the club to look elsewhere. The Hammers have conceded the second-most goals in the Premier League this season, as Espirito Santo wants to stop the rut, and a new name has emerged on their shortlist.

Will West Ham sign Charlie Cresswell?

Charlie Cresswell is the name on West Ham’s list, as the Londoners are now preparing a bid for the Toulouse centre-back. Signed for the French side back in the summer of 2024, having come through the Leeds United academy, the Hammers were keen to bring him in last summer. He also has a host of other clubs keeping tabs, as the 23-year-old former Premier League defender has been a key part of Toulouse’s season.

West Ham are confident of signing the 23-year-old former Premier League defender, as they believe their upcoming offer could prove decisive for Toulouse as well as the player. It remains to be seen whether the Hammers can prise the English defender back to England, as this could prove to be a decisive signing in the context of their season.
