Aston Villa, Newcastle United, West Ham United keen on Oscar Mingueza

Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing 26-year-old Celta Vigo utility man Oscar Mingueza in a bargain move this year.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and West Ham United are keen on signing Oscar Mingueza. The Celta Vigo utility man has entered the final six months of his contract, and a bargain move to the Premier League may be on the cards. However, well-known European clubs like AC Milan, Atalanta, Como, and Marseille are also interested in the Spanish international.

How has Oscar Mingueza fared at Celta Vigo?

Oscar Mingueza has resurrected his stuttering fortunes since joining Celta Vigo from Barcelona in a Bosman move in July 2022. While the Spaniard had some positive moments during his stint with Barcelona, he could not become an undisputed first-choice starter. However, the 25-year-old has resurrected his stuttering fortunes in the last three and a half years.

Mingueza has made over 100 appearances thus far for the Galician outfit while chipping in with seven goals and 12 assists. However, the Spanish international’s long-term future is uncertain, as he has entered the final six months of his contract with Celta Vigo. The situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, with Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and West Ham United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

A man in demand

The former Barcelona defender has been on Aston Villa’s radar for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, as Matty Cash is the only dependable right-back in Unai Emery’s squad. Additionally, Mingueza’s ability to play as a centre-back makes him an appealing target for Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United’s interest in Oscar Mingueza makes sense. Kieran Trippier’s long-term future is uncertain, and the veteran English full-back may not be at St. James’ Park beyond the 2025/26 season. So, Mingueza has emerged as a viable target for Newcastle United.

As for West Ham United, it is unclear why Mingueza has emerged as a target for the East London outfit. Nuno Espirito Santo has two right-backs in his squad, with both players being solid enough in their outings for the Hammers. So, it is unclear how Mingueza fits into the scheme of things at West Ham.

Meanwhile, well-known European clubs like AC Milan, Atalanta, Como, and Marseille are also interested in the 26-year-old Spanish international. With Mingueza entering the final six months of his contract with Celta Vigo, a bargain move outside La Liga may be on the cards for the former Barcelona defender.
